5 seat Shell Tandem bench in the style of Eames for Vitra, 1960s, £800

A mid century behemoth in both physical size and design stature!

This unusual bench is constructed of a black steel T bar on aluminium legs, featuring five coloured plastic shell seats. These details match the rare tandem shell seating arrangements designed by Charles & Ray Eames in the 1950s and ’60s, but without a definitive makers mark, we must describe them as ‘in the style of.’

But what style! Combining both the arm and side chair designs, this bench is not only rare and colourful, but comfortable and, I may say, very cool. It is also, from a practical point of view, durable and easy to maintain. Perfect for a large hallway, or perhaps even a modernist garden!

The chairs show some marks commensurate with age – please see the photos or ask for more details. The chrome of the aluminium legs also shows some wear due to age.
