Happy Monday my loves!
January means one thing in this house – 30 days of Yoga.
The January program from yoga goddess and all round good human Adriene Mishler this year is called Breath. A program which she creates fresh every year, and shares with us all FOR FREE. This is the 6th year that I’ve followed along, every time amazed and thrilled and stretched at not only what I am capable of, but also at the way having a regular practice changes how you think about life. My muscles ache, that is for absolute certain, but it stretches your mind, too. It switches your perspective, gets you to ask yourself questions, and generally makes you spend time thinking about stuff that regular life doesn’t generally allow time for. I’ve written several times before about how much I admire Adriene and what she does, so I won’t gush on about it again here. Except that I love her.
One of the ideas that often comes up in some of her videos is taking care of oneself – tending to your needs. Being true to yourself. Tend to your space. Give yourself a nice place to be, so that you can feel happy and fulfilled and ultimately, help others.
This advice is slowly, after years of practice, sinking in to the every day. Looking at life and work and home and business and myself as a whole rather than separate boxes, and seeing how they can fit together in a way that feels good from the inside. I’m not going to lie, that is a massive mission this year especially as the boundaries have literally dissolved and I’m wearing all the hats and doing all the things all at the same time (as so many people are in the current situation) . It’s not easy. But it’s worthwhile work, one day at a time.
It’s been a tough start to 2021, let’s be honest. But we’ll keep showing up, keep doing our best, keep taking those deep breaths.
