Description
This unusual bench is constructed of a black steel T bar on aluminium legs, featuring five coloured plastic shell seats. Often found in airports and other transport hubs they are exceedingly rare to find in the UK.
These details match the rare tandem shell seating arrangements designed by Charles & Ray Eames in the 1950s and ’60s, but this set is without a definitive maker’s mark, most probably in the form of a sticker stuck to chair or frame, lost sometime in their history.
But what style! Combining both the arm and side chair designs, this bench is not only rare and colourful, but comfortable and, I may say, very cool. It is also, from a practical point of view, durable and easy to maintain. Perfect for a large hallway, or perhaps even a modernist garden!
The chairs show some marks commensurate with age – please see the photos or ask for more details. The chrome of the aluminium legs also shows some wear due to age.
