A simply lovely, classic wingback armchair from world renowned chair makers, Parker Knoll.
Starting with the frame, the original chair is excellent; strong, solid and robust. All original fabric has been removed; the chair taken back to bare carcass and foams. All of the original springs, which make Parker Knolls so comfortable, have been checked ; they are also in superb condition. Before any further work was done the curvaceous ‘Queen Anne’ legs have been stripped back to reveal the beautiful light beech wood.
At this stage fire retardant calico has been used to ensure compliance with modern safety regulations, placed across all areas of the chair that were to be covered in the outer upholstery.
We were inspired to create a contrast pattern for this chair – the curves of the frame allow for a playfulness that you don’t always get with other manufacturers- and so looked for both contrasting colours and patterns, along with tactile elements too. As can be seen from the pictures, the outside ‘faces’ of the chair have been reupholstered in amazingly soft, stroke-able velvet – made from bamboo – a luxurious and eco friendly choice! To compliment this, the outside surfaces of the chair have been reupholstered in a contrasting cotton ticking, with careful attention to pattern matching, giving wonderful texture and the subtle hint of playfulness that we envisaged for this elegant chair.
Finally, with a nod to the traditional elements of the wingback design, piping has been used only where the two contrasting fabrics meet – along the top of the backrest, and around the seat cushion – elsewhere, the smooth velvet remains uninterrupted.
