Spotlight on…The Tulip Chairs

The Tulip Chair – probably one of Maurice Burke’s (space cowboy) most well known designs – and with good reason. The combination of space age (at the time) materials such as plastic and fibreglass and organic shapes is a surefire winner in my book.

Maurice Burke produced a number of designs in the ’50s and ’60s, largely for British manufactures Arkana. Et voilà – a full set of four, with original blue velour covers:

These beautiful blue babies are showing their age a little bit – aren’t we all – with some slight wear the the upholstery and minor marks to the bases, but it’s so rare to find a compete set in their original condition that we didn’t want to mess with them too much. Besides, I just love that blue!

A gentle swivel action makes it easy to to get in and out of your seat when at the table – no dragging these across the floor.

Whilst not a perfect, pristine set, you do would be owning a little bit of design history, and in my book, that’s worth it. 🙂

Have a wonderful week, vintage lovers! 🙂
